The Office of Vital Statistics currently maintains around approximately 21.5 million vital records for events occurring the state of Florida. The Office maintains birth and death records generally from 1917 onwards, but there are limited records for events occurring between 1865-1917 for birth records, and between 1877-1917 for death records. Birth and death records are restricted until such time they become public records.


Record Type: Birth | Dates: Since 1917 | Cost: $14.00 (Fees Vary)

Birth records are restricted records in Florida and must be obtained by the person named on the certificate, parent, legal guardian or legal representative. Records exist prior to 1917, but are limited.


Record Type: Death | Dates: Since 1917 | Cost: $5.00

Death records are restricted records in Florida and must be obtained by a spouse, parent, child, sibling, grandchild, legal guardian or legal representative. Records exist prior to 1917, but are limited. Death records become public records after 50 years.


Record Type: Marriage | Dates: Since June 6, 1927 | Cost: $5.00

Records prior to the above date must be obtained from the Clerk of Court in the county where the event occurred.


Record Type: Divorce | Dates: Since June 6, 1927 | Cost: $5.00

Records prior to the above date must be obtained from the Clerk of Court in the county where the event occurred.
