The Office of Vital Statistics
maintains records of births, deaths, marriages and divorces that
occurred within the state of Kansas. The office currently
maintains more than 10 million records; issuing over 360,000
certified copies of records every year to those eligible, and
adding over 100,000 new records annually. Vital records in the
state of Kansas (birth, death, marriage and divorce) are not
public records and can only be obtained by persons named on the
certificate, immediate family, legal representative or persons
who can prove a direct interest.

Some records are available
dating back to the 1860s. These are delayed certificates of
birth filed with the office from 1940 onwards for those still
alive at the time which didn't possess a birth certificate.
Birth records are restricted and can only be obtained by certain
individuals. For records prior to 1911, visit the Kansas
Historical Society (see Other Resources).

Can be obtained from the Office
of Vital Statistics, or directly from the County Clerk of the
District Court in the county where the marriage license was
issued. Marriage records are restricted and can only be obtained
by certain individuals. For records prior to 1913, visit the
Kansas Historical Society (see Other Resources).
Record Type: Divorce
| Dates: Since July 1, 1951 | Cost: $15.00
Certified copies of divorce
certificates (which only contain basic information such as names
of husband and wife, date of marriage, date of divorce, etc) can
be obtained from the Office of Vital Statistics. However, copies
of divorce decrees must be obtained directly from the County
Clerk of the District Court in the county where the divorce was
granted.
