The State Vital Records Office
maintains birth, death and marriage records from 1897 onwards.
Records prior to this must be obtained from the Town Clerk and
Registrar in the town where the event occurred. Processing times
for the State Office may be up to 6 weeks, but for faster
processing times, contact the relevant Town Clerk if you know
where the event took place.

1897 can be obtained from the Connecticut State Library’s
History and Genealogy Unit.
Record Type: Birth

Request for certified copies of
birth records can be made to the Town Clerk and Registrar in the
town where the event occurred if you desire a faster turn-around
time. Birth records falling within the last 100 years are
restricted and not available to the public. To obtain a record,
you must either be the person named on the record, immediate
family, or attorney.
Record Type: Death

Request for certified copies of
death records can be made to the Town Clerk and Registrar in the
town where the event occurred if you desire a faster turn-around
time. Death records are not restricted records in the state of
Connecticut and are available to anybody over the age of 18.
Record Type: Marriage

Request for certified copies of
marriage records can be made to the Town Clerk and Registrar in
the town where the marriage license was issued if you desire a
faster turn-around time.
Record Type: Divorce
| Dates: 1851 - 1939, 1968 - Now | Cost: $17.00
Must be obtained from the Clerk
of Superior Court where the divorce was granted. The State
Office of Vital Records does not record dissolution decrees and
cannot issue certified copies.
