The Maryland Division of Vital
Records offers certified copies of vital records for events that
occurred in the state of Maryland. The division also offers
divorce verifications. Most birth certificates for individuals
born in Maryland after 1939 are also available for same day
service at local health departments in all jurisdictions except
Montgomery County, Baltimore City, and Baltimore County. In
order to receive same day service, an applicant will be required
to present valid, unexpired, government-issued photo
identification. The identification must have a date issued and
an expiration date.

Birth records are restricted in
the state of Maryland for 100 years and can only be requested
and obtained by the person named on the certificate, a parent or
guardian, or authorized representative. Valid, government-issued
photo identification is required. This identification must have
a issue and expiration date. Records prior to 1925 can be
obtained from the the

State Archives.

Death records are restricted in
the state of Maryland and can only be requested and obtained by
a surviving relative, or authorized representative of a
surviving relative, a funeral director who was in charge of the
final disposition of the body of the deceased, person who has
proven legal need or a court of law. Valid, government-issued
photo identification is required. This identification must have
a issue and expiration date. Records prior to 1969 can be
obtained from the the

The Division of Vital Records
can only verify a divorce. Decrees of Divorce and Annulment of
Marriage can be obtained from the Circuit Court that granted the
decree.
