The State Vital Records Office
maintain vital records for events occurring in the state of
Michigan from 1867 onwards for birth, death and marriage
records, and 1897 onwards for divorce records. Processing times
vary from 3-5 weeks. Certain records (such as birth records) are
restricted and may only be obtained by certain individuals, such
as person named on the record, parent, or legal representative
etc. Birth records more than 100 years old become public
records.

Birth records are restricted
for 100 years before they become public records. Birth records
can only be obtained by the person named on the certificate,
parent or guardian, legal representative, heir or court of
competent jurisdiction. Some births occurring pre-1906 were not
filed.

Some deaths occurring pre-1897
were not filed.
Record Type: Marriage

Some marriages (especially
pre-1926) were not filed with the state. Certified copies can be
