The New York State Department
of Health maintains birth and death records dating back to 1881,
and marriage and divorce records dating back to 1880 and 1963
respectively. The department of maintains records for events
that occurred in the state of New York, and excludes New York
City; which has its own separate vital records office.
The Office of Vital Records in
New
York City maintains records for events that occurred in
New York City (Brooklyn, the Bronx,
Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island). Records date back to 1910
for birth records and to 1949 for death records. Records prior
to these dates can be obtained from the
Municipal Archives (311 or 212-639-9675 outside New York
City).

State office has records since
1881. For records before 1914 in Albany, Buffalo, and Yonkers,
or before 1880 in any other city, write to Registrar of Vital
Statistics in city where event occurred. For the rest of the
State, except New York City, write to State office.

$15.00 and date from 1910 onwards.

1930-1955 can be obtained solely from the Manhattan office.

Copies of divorce records are available from
the County Clerk in the county the divorce was granted.
